Short description:

To share experiences and points of view with other class members; build a sense of critical distance towards a range of social and cultural issues; encourage students to adopt greater independence and responsibility towards their studies; and to stimulate and support the student’s growing sense of confidence both in their listening skills and use of spoken English, which will prepare them for their future role in the classroom. Students are required to provide evidence of their work outside of the classroom in the form of a folder. For the most part, in-class materials will comprise original materials/authentic sources. The importance of including some form of authentic listening task each week cannot be stressed enough. Great emphasis iin semester 5-6 is also placed on note taking/summary skills and the student's ability to research around the topic idependently of the teacher.

K_W03 knows the basic terminology of the structure, strategy and integration of statements, as well as methods of conducting discourse, appropriate for teaching English

SKILLS

K_U01 is able to search, analyze, evaluate, select and use information with the use of various sources and methods

K_U09 Has the ability to substantive argumentation using the views of other authors and to formulate conclusions

K_U10 Is able to communicate, using various channels and communication techniques, with specialists in the field of science and scientific disciplines relevant to the studied field of study, in Polish and a foreign language

K_U11 has the ability to prepare typical written works in Polish and a foreign language, considered basic for the fields of science and scientific disciplines, relevant to the field of study, concerning specific issues, using basic theoretical approaches, as well as various sources

K_U12 has the ability to prepare oral presentations, in Polish and a foreign language, on specific issues, using basic theoretical approaches, as well as various sources

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment in Semesters 5-6 is based upon the following:

- Attendance and Classroom Contributions: 30%

- A recorded assignment: 40%

- The keeping of a logbook of listening activities:30%

In semester 6 assessment the above weighting remains the same, but the recorded assignment is replaced by an in-class presentation.
