For Intervention Mapping, the following textbook will be used:

Knowledge:

The student has knowledge about the methods of definition, theoretical concepts and models of health, illness and disability.

The student has knowledge about the impact of psychosocial factors (including stress) on human health. Is able to indicate mechanisms conditioning adaptation to illness or disability.

The student has knowledge about psychological, social and cultural factors conditioning human functioning in a situation of illness or disability.

The student knows the areas of application of psychology in medicine, health promotion and broadly understood rehabilitation, as well as contemporary directions of scientific research in this field.

The student knows the directions and methods of scientific research conducted in the field of health psychology and rehabilitation.

Skills:

The student has the ability to analyze and plan scientific research according to modern standards in the field of health psychology and rehabilitation, as well as in accordance with the principles of ethics.

The student understands the relationship between having psychological knowledge, and the effectiveness of the process of communication and cooperation with an ill patient or a person with a disability.

Competences:

The student recognizes the need for an individual approach in diagnosing the situation of ill and disabled people.

The student is able to plan activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, shape a positive and complex image of people with disabilities, and to plan a scientific evaluation of the effects of activities undertaken in this area.

The student is aware of the need to apply ethical and methodological standards at scientific research and popularizing of scientific knowledge.

Specifically for intervention mapping, students will be able to:

explain the rationale for a systematic approach to intervention development;

describe an socio-ecological approach to intervention development;

explain and apply the types of logic models that can be used to conceptualise various phases of programme development;

list and apply the steps and processes of Intervention Mapping;

explain and apply the core processes in each step of developing theory- and evidence-based interventions;

explain and apply theories for understanding and changing behaviour to health and social problems.

demonstrate understanding of the Intervention Mapping protocol and its application to solving health and social problems.

Metody i kryteria oceniania: (tylko po angielsku)

At the end of the four lectures on Intervention Mapping (Lectures 7, 9 and 10), there is an open-answer test on the Intervention Mapping process. In addition, the small-group product will be graded. There will be an exam comprising open ended and closed questions covering the content of lectures 1-6, 8, and 12-15.

The final grade is calculated as follows:

Intervention Mapping test: 20%

Intervention Mapping group project: 30%

Exam based on remaining lectures: 50%

97% or more = 5!

92-96% = 5

84-91% = 4.5

76-83% = 4

68-75% = 3.5

60-67% = 3

below 60% = 2 (fail)

Lectures: up to two lectures may be missed without excuse. Further absences need a formal excuse, however no more than seven lectures can be missed, regardless of excuse.

Seminars: one seminar can may be missed without excuse. One more seminar can be missed with formal excuse, however no more than two seminars can be missed, regardless of excuse.

Students must respect the principles of academic integrity. Cheating and plagiarism (including copying work from other students, internet or other sources) are serious violations that are punishable and instructors are required to report all cases to the administration.

Zakres tematów: (tylko po angielsku)

1. 20.02 Problems of health and illness in psychology; psychology and medical sciences. History and developments in health psychology. Health - contemporary concepts and models. Health criteria, the importance of health in the value system. Health as a condition and process. Protective factors and risk factors for human health. Psychology of health in the context of development throughout life.

2. 27.02 The concept of disability – external approach. Legal definition of disability in different countries. Models of disability: medical, social and bio-psycho-social.

3. 5.03 Social support and health. Models of the impact of social support on health. Traumatic stress and health. The concept of trauma, disorders related to trauma. Risky and harmful use of psychoactive substances.

4. 12.03 Internal approach of disability - disability culture. A short and shocking history of treatment of persons with disability . The voice form the inside – we need changes. Disability or biodiversity

5. 19.03 Psychological situation of people with different types of disabilities in external an internal approach to disability. External approach to disability – the sources and formation of processes of prejudices, stereotypes towards persons with disability. Internal approach to disability – pride, self-awareness, power, well-being approach.

6. 26.03 Rehabilitation Psychology. The concept of rehabilitation psychology within positive psychology paradigm. The role of a psychologist in the process of supporting people with disability.

7. 31-03 Introduction in relevant theories on (a) determinants of behavior and (b) behavior change methods.

8. 02-04 Ethical aspects of psychological rehabilitation of persons with disability. Universal design paradigm.

9. 03-04 Online lectures on Intervention Mapping steps 1: Needs assessment, and 2: Change objectives

10. 06-04 Online lectures on Intervention Mapping steps 3: Methods, 4: Program, and 5: Implementation

11. 07-04 Short Q&A session; open answer test

Six interactive session on Intervention Mapping in the period of 15 April – 24 April. The six group sessions will again summarize the principles and processes of Intervention Mapping and include examples of health promotion programs that have successfully applied the Intervention Mapping process. Small groups will then discuss and apply the process to the health promotion topic selected by the group, using the step-by-step workbook.

1) drafting a logic model of the problem,

2) specifying programme outcomes and objectives,

3) designing a programme by selecting theory- and evidence-based intervention methods and practical applications,

4) producing the programme by briefing program producers and pretesting and pilot testing intervention materials,

5) anticipating program implementation by specifying adoption and implementation plans, and

6) and anticipating evaluation by generating an evaluation plan.

12. 15.05 Research in the field of health psychology and rehabilitation. Interdisciplinary approach in health psychology. Evidence-based approach in research and practice in the field of health psychology. Alternative therapies from the perspective of health psychology. Ethics in research conducted on the participants with illnesses and disabilities.

13. 22.05 Health and illness in the psychological stress paradigm. Lazarus' cognitive-transactional paradigm. Coping with stress and its

efficiency. The conceptual scope and classification criteria. Theory of resource conservation. The importance of positive emotions - the theory of Folkman and Moskowitz.

14. 29.05 Psychological and physiological aspects of somatic diseases. Changes in the human situation as a result of illness. Cognitive and emotional attitude towards illness. Adaptation to the disease. Behavior towards one's own illness and its organization. Instrumental coping with the disease. Interventions in health psychology.

15. 05.06 Psychological problems of doctor-patient contact. Contact of the doctor with the patient as an interdisciplinary issue. Decision to consult with a doctor. Communication between doctor and patient. Health and psychological aspects of diagnosis. Patient’s satisfaction.
