4 hours online lecture with active student participation (Zoom)

The lecture is intended for all doctoral students of the Doctoral Schools. Its aim is to acquaint students with the key questions of research ethics and research integrity. The main topics include: philosophical ethics and its significance for the social practice of science, the social value of scientific research, the scientist’s ethos, the scientist’s social role, the scientist’s social responsibility, the evolution of the practice of scientific research, research integrity, the main standards of publication ethics and protection of intellectual property rights, the role and process of ethics review of research proposals, conflict of interests.

The lecture is the basis for workshops. Doctoral students are required to choose at least two workshops, 2 hours each, out of 9 workshops offered.

Requirements

no additional requirements; attendance is required; the lecture is complemented by workshops (4 hours total): each doctoral student is required to choose at least two workshops, 2 hours each, out of 9 workshops offered.

Credits

credits are given on the basis of the final test covering the contents of the lecture (“Research Ethics – lecture”) and readings; only those doctoral students who attended two workshops (2 hours each) will be allowed to attend the test and earn credits for the lecture (and subject); the retake test is analogous to the final test
