Research Ethics: Protection of Personal Data and Respect for Privacy of Resaerch Pariticipants in the humanities, social, legal, and economic sciences

2 hours online workshop (kampus.uw.edu.pl) case analysis, analysis of regulatory documents, discussion of assigned readings

The workshop accompanies lecture “Research Ethics - lecture” which is required for doctoral students of all Doctoral Schools.

Contents: collection and processing of personal data; privacy, confidentiality, anonimisation, pseudonimisation; types of personal data; tracking of research participants; protection of privacy in qualitative research; incidental findings policy; secondary use of data; the use of publicly available data; protection of individuals and groups against stigmatization and discrimination.

Intended audience: doctoral students conducting research involving personal data collection and processing, processing of private documentation (letters, private notes, diaries etc.) of public persons, oral history research, interviews, participating observation.

credits are given on the basis of the final test covering the contents of “Research Ethics – lecture” and the reading materials; only those doctoral students who attended two workshops (2 hours each) will be allowed to attend the test and earn credits for the lecture (and the subject); the retake test is analogous to the final test
