  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

(in Polish) Student powinien posiadać podstawową, szkolną wiedzę z zakresu historii, kultury i społeczeństwa Wysp Brytyjskich oraz Stanów Zjednoczonych.

Student powinien znać język angielskim na poziomie co najmniej B2.

Student zaliczył I rok.


Short description:

Classes are designed for students of the second year, 1st degree. The aim of the classes is to comprehensively familiarize students with a wide historical, social and cultural context of American institutions and prepare them for work in the social reality of English-speaking countries with a special view of the USA.

Full description:

A multilateral view of historical, social and cultural humanities in relation to the United States of America (excluding literature, distinguished as a separate subject). The content of the teaching will consist of the following:

- physical, economic and political geography;

- political, economic and social history;

- history of art and culture (except in the history of literature);

- modern political and economic life;

- modern reality and social problems;

- the world of the media;

- national identity;

Learning outcomes:

In the area of knowledge: student recognizes the main political, social, artistic and inteellectual achievements of subsequent ages. Student is familiar with key social and political institutions of the countries of language B.and C.

In the area of skills: student recognizes and interprets symbols present in the culture of language B and C and is aware of the values which lie at their bottom.

In the area of attitudes: student is open to cultural differences and displays interest in them.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Term paper: based on the materials provided on Moodle platform

Grading criteria – Exam:

The writing parts are graded according to the following criteria:

0-59% = failed (2.0)

60-67% = satisfactory (3.0)

68-75% = satisfactory plus (3.5)

76-83% = good (4.0)

84-91% = good plus (4.5)

92-98% = very good (5.0)

99-100% = very good! (5.0!)
