Założenia (opisowo): | (tylko po angielsku) Graduate (MA or PhD) students. Good speaking and writing skills in English (at least B2 level). It is recommended to Erasmus students, as well as to students of sociology (IS UW—seminarium, fakultet) and other programmes of the University of Warsaw (as OGUN). If there will be more candidates than places, we will ask you to sumbit a short essay on why would you like to join this seminar. It is recommended but not compulsory to take this course with the course on Museums and Social Interventions: A Research Seminar, offered alternately: week A: Heritage…, week B: Museums… |

This course offers a concise, interdisciplinary introduction to the uses of decolonial approach in the field of cultural heritage practices. It draws on cutting edge research in that field and introduces a global perspective. In the first part of this course students will familiarize themselves with the meanings and the various uses of terms such as “colonial”, “postcolonial”, “decolonial”, “(post)imperial” in sociology, cultural studies and history. They will also learn about the value of and on the differences between “comparative”, “transnational”, and “entangled” approaches to cultural heritage research. In the second part of the course students will work on the case studies of urban heritage by applying the framework of “removal”, “repression”, “reframing” and “re-emergence” which has been developed by the ECHOES H2020 project (www.projectechoes.eu). |

This course offers a concise, interdisciplinary introduction to the uses of decolonial approach in the field of cultural heritage practices. It draws on cutting edge research in that field and introduces a global perspective. In the first part of this course students will familiarize themselves with the meanings and the various uses of terms such as “colonial”, “postcolonial”, “decolonial”, “(post)imperial” in sociology, cultural studies and history. They will also learn about the value of and on the differences between “comparative”, “transnational”, and “entangled” approaches to cultural heritage research. In the second part of the course students will work on the case studies of urban heritage by applying the framework of “removal”, “repression”, “reframing” and “re-emergence” which has been developed by the ECHOES H2020 project (www.projectechoes.eu). The course is offered by the ECHOES researchers and will combine the expertise of scholars from the University of Warsaw, the University of Aarhus, the University of Amsterdam and the University of Coimbra. Guest participants from these universities will join selected seminars in-situ or on-line. |
