ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The classes are a platform where students present ideas of potential business. The students’ presentations are complemented by lectures concerning the legal and economical issues related to running a business in informatics.

Full description:

The classes are arranged in three stages. The first one is devoted to the organisation of the activities. The second stage is devoted to students' presentations of computer based projects while the third one consists of lectures devoted to the legal and economical issues related to running a business in informatics. The first stage would take 2-3 weeks, the second one up to the end of December while the third one would take place in the final month of the semester. The presentations in the second stage are given by teams that consist of either students of informatics (teams of 3 persons) or students of other majors (teams of up to 3 persons). Presentations given by teams from informatics will be interleaved with presentations of similar duration given by students of other majors. During the classes there is time devoted to discussion over the projects. This format would create a platform where ideas could be exchanged between different circles that take part in the subject. In the third part, until the beginning of the exam period, the task of students would be to formulate interdisciplinary projects that could form a basis of a potential start-up. The proposals should be formulated by teams with students of different majors. Project descriptions of length 5-10 pages would be submitted in January to a committee that would consist of representatives of informatics and other majors that take part in the organisation of the subjects. Until the end of winter exam session, a limited number of projects will be chosen, which can be mentored by our faculty members within the educational path Start-ups of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics. In addition, some of the classes in the third stage will be devoted to lectures concerning the legal and economical issues related to running a business in informatics.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge

- Students know the principles of making and development of individual entrepreneurship based upon informatics [K_W06],

- Students have the basic knowledge concerning legal and ethical issues related to scientific and educational activities [K_W08],

- Students know and understand the basic notions and principles in the field of industrial property protection and copyright law as well as the need of intellectual property management; they know how to use patent information resources [K_W09].

Skills

- Students are able to take advantage of their evolved skills in preparation of oral presentations both in Polish and in a foreign language on a topic within the field of informatics or on an interdisciplinary one [K_U11],

- Students are able to describe selected problems in informatics as well as their solutions in a way understandable for non-professionals; they are able to prepare a presentation (an article) with help of computerised tools [K_U12],

- Students are able to prepare a scientific report in a selected branch of informatics [K_U13].

Competences

- Students are aware of their limitations and understand the need for further education, including the need for education beyond their professional domain [K_K01].

- Students are able to precisely formulate questions that deepen the understanding of a given subject (in particular in contacts with non-professionals) or to find missing elements of reasoning [K_K02].

- Students are able to work in teams, in particular in interdisciplinary ones; they understand the need of systematic work on all kinds of long-term projects [K_K03],

- Students understand and appreciate the significance of intellectual integrity in their own activities as well as in the activities of others; they act ethically [K_K04].

- Students are aware of responsibility for taking up scientific studies, experiments and observations; they understand social aspects of practical application of knowledge and skills and related responsibility [K_K05].

- Students are able to formulate opinions concerning common issues in informatics [K_K06],

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

30% of the final grade is for the activities during classes and 70% is for the final project proposal that includes an MVP.
