Prerequisites (description): | (in Polish) Przedmiot jest w całości realizowany w trakcie kilkudniowego wyjazdu terenowego. |
Short description: |
Introduction to ecology of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Methods in laboratory and field ecology. Environmental changes caused by anthropogenic pressure (loss and transformation of habitats, landscape fragmentation, direct exploitation, introductions of alien species). Application of ecology in the evaluation and monitoring of environmental quality and in reducing the effects of human pressure. |

Ecology as an earth science. Basic definitions (environment, habitat, limiting factors, range of tolerance, adaptations, stress, individuals, populations, species, communities, ecosystems, landscapes). Anthropogenic changes in the environment (loss and transformation of habitats, landscape fragmentation, introductions of alien species) and their consequences for individuals, populations, communities and ecosystems. The prospectives of reconstructing the ecosystem past. Anthropopressure as the force of selection. Physiology and ecology of an individual in the environment changed by anthropopressure. Extremophiles. Biodiversity. Species diversity and methods of assessing diversity. Protection of biodiversity. Contemporary threats to biodiversity. Sixth extinction. Population processes and ecology of interspecific interactions under the anthropopressure. Community structure and biological control of biomass of trophic levels. Ecosystem concept. Productivity of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Ecological apllications. Applying ecology in environmental and nature protection. |

Learning outcomes: |
(in Polish) Student powinien posiąść gruntowną znajomość ekologii (osobnika, populacji, biocenozy i ekosystemu) w warunkach niezaburzonych działalnością człowieka i w warunkach antropopresji, umieć stosować proste metody oceny stanu środowiska, proponować metody przeciwdziałania skutkom antropopresji.
