Short description:

The aim of the workshop is to help Polish speakers with philosophical writing in English. English and Polish differ in grammar, punctuation system, writing style, etc. The aim of the workshop is to work through some of the most important differences in practice. We will jointly help improve each other’s writing pieces.

Full description:

The aim of the classes is to help Polish speakers with philosophical writing in English. English and Polish differ in grammar, punctuation system, writing style (e.g. repetition is unacceptable in Polish but not in English) etc. The aim of the workshop is to work through some of the most important differences in practice.

Each participant is expected to have a piece of philosophical writing (not more than 20 pages) at the beginning of the class. It will be read and analyzed by all participants to help unPolish the text during our meetings.

Prior to each workshop, each participant will prepare (and submit) an unPolished version of an assigned text (ca. 1-2 pages long). We will discuss the corrections during the meetings

Podstawowe różnice między językiem polskim i językiem angielskim jako językiem tekstu filozoficznego (P8S_WG.4)

Umiejętności: potrafi

Posługiwać się językiem angielskim w stopniu umożliwiającym komunikację w środowisku międzynarodowym (P8S_UK.1, P8S_UK.5)

Dopracować w języku angielskim tekst upowszechniający wyniki działalności naukowej także w formach popularnych (P8S_UK.2)

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

In order to pass the workshop, a student needs to:

(50%) take an active part in the workshop (2 absences are allowed)

(50%) present a “before” and “after” piece of writing as well as a brief description of the changes that were introduced (taking into account class discussions).
