Założenia (opisowo):	(tylko po angielsku) The course is aimed as the basic level-1 introduction to statistical analysis and their practical application. Students will need good knowledge of English and basic computer and maths literacy. They will benefit from understanding the basics of comparative research design.
Tryb prowadzenia:	w sali
Skrócony opis:	(tylko po angielsku) The course will be run in the computer lab. Students will learn how to analyse quantitative data using SPSS software. We will use IR relevant data from the dataset 'Quality of Government' (https://qog.pol.gu.se/). Main topics: basics of the SPSS software, data entering and importing, types of measurement, statistical description of variables, standardization, data recoding and computing, using graphics in SPSS. Students will also practice: t tests and ANOVA, Chi-square test, correlation.
Pełny opis:	(tylko po angielsku) The course will be run in the computer lab. Students will learn how to analyse quantitative data using SPSS software. We will use IR relevant data from the dataset 'Quality of Government' (https://qog.pol.gu.se/). The classes will cover the following topics: - basic functions of the SPSS software; database preparation – entering data and opening the dataset in SPSS format; - types of measurement and related descriptive statistics; measures of central tendency – mean, median, mode; measures of dispersion – standard deviation, variance; - hypothesis testing, Error I & II, specifying dependent and independent variables; - crosstabulations (defining and analyzing); - Chi-square test, p-value; - graphical presentation of data; - creating variables – recoding and computing; - labeling variables and values, editing tables; - exporting tables and graphs into Word; - dividing dataset into groups; - standardizing variables; - comparing means – t-test (independent and paired samples), ANOVA, Coehn’s d value; - correlation - application, writing and interpretation of results, graphs.

Efekty uczenia się:	(tylko po angielsku) The students will learn to: - propose hypotheses and operationalize them in terms of quantitative data; - describe the data; - analyse basic dependencies between variables; - write data-based reports.
Metody i kryteria oceniania:	(tylko po angielsku) Final grade will be awarded on the basis of a written report using the "Quality of Government" dataset.
