1. Introduction to family law (sources of family law, history of family law, basic terminology of family law, principles of family law); 2. Marriage (Formation of marriage, nullity of marriage, rights and duties of the spouses); 3. Asset management systems in marriage (statutory, contractual and obligatory system); 4. The termination of marriage and judicial separation; 5. The blood and affanity relations; 6. Adoption; 7. Maintenance obligations; 8. Parental resposibility; 9. Introduction to succession law (sources of succession law, history of succession law, basic terminology of succession law, principles succession law); 10. Intestate succession; 11. Dispositions upon death; 12. Obligatory share of the inheritance (legitim); 13. Acceptance and refusal of inheritance. |

Learning outcomes: |
During the classes students are expected to acquire general knowledge about Polish family and succession law. Students will be able to identify and describe most common legal relationships and legal acts in family and succession law (formation of marriage, last will). Knowledge acquired during the classes shall be sufficient to analyse rights and obligations of the parties of legal relationships as well as conditions of validity of legal acts. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
The students are expected to learn regulations governing basic institutions of family and succession law and how those provisions are being interpreted in the doctrine and applied by the courts. Students are expected to prepare an essay about one of the topics discussed during the classes. |
