ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 5.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The lecture presents basic institutions of the European Medical Law in particular the Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine, EU-law and patients’ rights. A case law of the European and national courts is analysed.

Full description:

The lecture presents basic institutions of the European Medical Law in particular the Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine, EU-Law and Patients’ Rights. Analysis of case law of European and national courts in medical cases will be carried out. In particular the following issues will be taught:

1. Methodology of Medical Law and sources of Medical Law

2. Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine

3. EU-Medical Law

4. Consent to medical intervention

5. Genetics and status of human body

6. Transplantation

7. Research on humans

8. Patients’ rights – regulatory schemes in Europe

9. Systems and grounds of compensatory liability in medical cases

10. Prerequsites of compensatory liablity

11. Wrongful life claims

12. Assisted procreation

13. Assisted suicide and euthanasia

14. Transsexualism

15. Credits
