ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 4.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description: (in Polish)

a legal frame in international law concerning international trade and investments. The most important part concerns international trade law including World Trade Organization and its legal system as well as regional trade agreements, That part includes mainly regulations concerning trade in goods and services, intellectual property rights but also institutional and organizational aspects of the WTO law as well as dispute settlement. The lecture will also cover a problem of developing states and the EU as a member of the WTO and party of regional trade agreements. An important part of international economic law is investment law. During lecture we concentrate on investment law of the EU.

1. International Economic Law – beginnings, history, scope, basic definitions

2. World Trade Organization as an international organization – brief history, legal basis, organs and institutions, disputes settlement mechanism, WTO law in internal legal order

3. Trade in goods in the WTO legal framework – GATT, tariffs and quantitative restrictions, general exceptions, clauses of non-discrimination

4. Trade in goods in the WTO legal framework – other agreements related to goods concerning technical standards, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, agriculture, countervailing measures,

5. Trade in services – GATS, modes of trade in services, basics of liberalization, non-discriminatory clauses, exceptions,

6. Trade related aspects of intellectual property rights

7. Other agreements concluded within the framework of the WTO – , government procurement, Trade Facilitation Agreement

8. Regional Trade Agreements – logic of the Article XXIV of the WTO, scope of agreements, history of discriminatory liberalization of Trade

11. International investment law – investment and trade law
