ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 8.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The aim of the course is to acquaint its participant with basic notions of logic. Particular emphasis is placed on the legal use of logic.

Short description:

The subject includes subsequent themes: syntactic categories, names, definitions, relations, calculus of propositions, logic of quantifiers, theory of names and logical basis of interpretation in law.

Classes are devoted to the practical application of the content provided in class.

The lecture covers the following issues:

1. Sign, language, syntactic categories

2. The names, divisions and relations of names

3. Definitions, legal definitions

4. Elements of the theory of relations

5. Sentencial logic

6. Elements of predicate logic

7. Traditional Logic

8. Substantiation of claims

9. Devolution of thoughts (questions and answers, persuasion and discussion, logical fallacies)

10. Modalities

11.The logic in the process of creating and applying the law (legal syllogism)

12. The logical foundations of the interpretation, legal reasoning

Mastering the rules of correct thinking and precise use of language, in particular the principles of editing and interpretations of legal text .
