Short description: |
The subject of the course is the institutional law of the European Union; and in particular the structures and mechanisms of functioning of the Eu-ropean Union legal system. The course is based on analysis of the Treaty provisions and other legal instruments, the relevant case-law of the Court of Justice of the Europe-an Union and selected recent literature. |

The scope of the course includes the structure and mechanisms of func-tioning of the European Union legal system, within its institutional content. 1. Membership of the EU 2. Division of competences within the EU 3. Principles of the EU 4. Citizenship of the Union. 5. Institutional framework of the EU 6. Sources of EU law 7. Legislative procedures 8. Principles of EU law 9. Liability in EU law 10. Enforcement of EU law 11. Preliminary rulings procedure 12. Protection of fundamental rights |

Learning outcomes: |
After completion of the course a student shall: – know the system of the European Union law, – be able to analyse legal instruments of the European Union and case-law of the Court of Justice of the European Union, – recognize decision-making procedures of the primary and secondary European Union law, – be able to explain mechanisms of functioning of the European Union internal market and its competition rules. |
