This course is designed to acquaint foreign students with general principles of the Law of Obligations (contract and tort law). Emphasis is placed on analyzing the legal provisions as well as their practical application. Students’ familiarity with provisions of foreign laws will be helpful to compare systems in different countries. |

Civil Law II part 1 is to provide students with: 1. Law of obligation in general 2. Concept of an obligation (art. 353 c.c.) 3. Contract and change of circumstances; monetary obligation 4. Damage and damages 5. Principle of freedom of contract and its limits (art. 353¹ c.c.) 6. Formation of contract and the preliminary contract 7. Standard form conditions and European standard of consumers protection 8. Contracts for the benefit of the third parties 9. The performance of contracts 10. Breach of contract 11. Supplementary contract clauses 12. Unjustified enrichment 13. Tort in general and concept of fault liability 14. Vicarious liability 15. Strict liability 16. Liability of the public authority for illegal acts (art. 417-417² c.c.) 17. Liability for bodily harm or violations the personal interests 18. Product liability (art. 449 c.c.) 19. The substitution of persons in an obligation |

Learning outcomes: |
Students will have knowledge about fundamental principles of the Law of Obligations, will be able to discuss simple cases and solve them, as well as will be able to grasp more complicated issues and prepared for advanced studies on civil law. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Basic estimate criterion is activity during classes. Oral exam or written paper on the issues in the lecture, the topic agreed earlier with the teacher. |
