The main purpose of the class is to give to students an opportunity to discuss fundamental dilemmas concerning ideology and practice in the school education, related for example to the school as an institution vs. individual, equality and inequality in education, the school and its social environment, teaching styles and teacher's authority. |

In the course of class the following questions are to be discussed: Should schooling be based on social experiences? Should schools determine what is learned? Should behaviorism shape educational practices? Does common curriculum promote equality? Does tracking create educational inequality? Should teacher's authority be based on formal regulations? Dilemmas related to the schools, IQ and equality. Does teachers make a difference? Dilemmas related to the teaching styles. Another dilemmas proposed by students. |

Efekty uczenia się: |
Knowledge: Student knows some educational dilemmas and its educational and ideological background. Ability: Student can recognize educational dilemmas and argue them. |

Presentation of selected issues, participation in the class. |
