ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 4.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The classes will present principles regarding the essence and purpose of insurance, the differences between social and economic insurance, and the principles of conducting insurance business.

Full description:

The aim of the course is to explain a number of issues and processes taking place in business insurance. The aim of the lecture is also to explain the concept of risk, insurance risk and the entire risk management process (from its identification to verification of the methods used), with particular emphasis on the use of the insurance method. The subject will also be devoted to discussing and explaining basic insurance terminology. During the classes, the issue of insurance contracts will be in-depth, especially the parties to the contract, its features, conclusion and execution. More important provisions of basic insurance regulations in Poland will also be presented, in particular the Act on Insurance Activity and the Act on Compulsory Insurance, the Insurance Guarantee Fund and the Polish Motor Insurers' Office. The basic institutions operating on the Polish insurance market will also be presented: the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, the Polish Chamber of Insurance, the Insured Ombudsman, the Insurance Guarantee Fund and the Polish Motor Insurers' Office. The basic insurance products of sections I and II will be discussed. There will also be an analysis of the main trends and indicators illustrating the state of development and the current situation on the Polish and Community insurance market.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Lecture:

Learning outcomes will be verified on an ongoing basis through tasks performed by participants during classes and at the end during the assessment and exam.

Final written exam (various forms of instructions possible, including closed single- and multiple-choice test questions, tasks, definitions, open questions)

Exercises:

Learning outcomes will be verified on an ongoing basis during work during classes, including discussions, speeches, individual and team work and homework, as well as at the end of classes during the final colloquium.

Final written exam stationary or on the e-Nauka portal (various forms of instructions possible, including closed single- and multiple-choice test questions, tasks, definitions, open questions)

In individual cases, an oral examination is possible.
