(tylko po angielsku) This seminar class aims at introducing students to the research methods used by the historians of antiquity. Their participants learn to use primary and secondary sources, as well as other tools characteristic of classical studies. All classes are focused on specific topics, but aim to show a bigger picture of the analysed phenomena. |

(tylko po angielsku) This seminar class aims at introducing students to the research methods used by the historians of antiquity. All the classes are focused on specific topics, selected in order to show different social, political and religious phenomena and particularly various types of evidence. The participants of the class learn to read critically both primary and secondary sources, and to use other tools characteristic of classical studies. All these skills are employed to solve specific problems, but the student also learn to get a big picture of the analysed phenomena. Every class requires substantial beforehand reading and active participation in the discussion during the seminar. For the list of subjects see below. |

Efekty uczenia się: |
(tylko po angielsku) After the end of the cycle the students should have in-depth knowledge of selected topic in ancient history. They should understand conditions and circumstances of specific historical events and broader phenomena characteristic of this period. They should be familiar with selected primary sources and able to study them critically. They should be able to find relevant secondary sources and assess the presented argument, discuss the studied issues, justify or modify their position, and use relevant terminology. |
Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
(tylko po angielsku) In order to pass the students should participate actively and competently in the class, demonstrating that they have read and thought through both primary and secondary literature. Additionally, they will be expected to complete a few minor tasks (pass a test of the knowledge of the map, make a summary of an article, performing a research in a database). Those who will not meet these requirements will need additionally to pass an oral test in the summer examination period. The participants should not miss more than three classes, and after each absence, except the first one, should read all the primary and secondary literature from the syllabus anyway and discuss the topic of the class with the teacher during his office hours. |
