  • tygodniowy wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta wynosi 45 h;
  • 1 punkt ECTS odpowiada 25-30 godzinom pracy studenta potrzebnej do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się;
  • tygodniowy nakład pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się pozwala uzyskać 1,5 ECTS;
  • nakład pracy potrzebny do zaliczenia przedmiotu, któremu przypisano 3 ECTS, stanowi 10% semestralnego obciążenia studenta.

Skrócony opis:

The general aim of the seminar is to discuss selected topics related to the changes in the education system in Poland, the UK and around the world. Particularly important would be questions concerning the role of the school in the reproduction of class inequalities. Other important issue is the role of the state and its institutions in initiating the change in the educational system and different ways of school transformations. The implications of educational system for the functioning of the state, society, public sphere, social bonds and citizenship in modern times are going to be addressed on the seminar as well.

The general aim of the seminar is to discuss selected topics related to the changes in the education system in Poland, the UK and around the world. Particularly important would be questions concerning the role of the school in the reproduction of class inequalities. Other important issue is the role of the state and its institutions in initiating the change in the educational system and different ways of school transformations. The implications of educational system for the functioning of the state, society, public sphere, social bonds and citizenship in modern times are going to be addressed on the seminar as well.

After completing the course the student:

Knows and understands basic concepts of various sub-domains of sociology (e.g. sociology of education,

Is reflective and critical of the problem of social differentiation and inequalities

Has in-depth knowledge of tools and goals of social policy

Can do a critical and reflective analysis of the consequences of the processes occurring in modern societies

Metody i kryteria oceniania:

Credit and exam requirements:

● Full attendance (two absences allowed) reading all assigned texts and actively participating in class discussions;

● At the end of the course participants are requested to write a paper of 30,000-32,000 characters or 15-18 pages. The topic of the paper, related to the content of the course, is agreed with the course teacher;

● Final grade is awarded at the end of the course, as a mean of the essay and participation grades;

When participating in class discussion students are expected to demonstrate the following:

● Knowledge, gained from reading the assigned texts and general erudition;

● Ability to argue for and against the positions presented in the discussion;

● Own opinion on the discussed social problems and their proposed solutions.
