The aim of the course is to introduce students to the most important issues of dependence and interactions between globalization and the crisis of development in Europe. |

The lecture is intended to present the links between globalization and the crisis of development in Europe, with particular focus on the institutions of the European Union and the Member States. The concept of globalization and its various interpretations, the most important dimensions of globalization, the processes of globalization in social development theories, the evolution of Europe's role in globalization (including the EEC / EU role after the fall of communism), the impact of the global crisis on the development of the EU, the assumptions and implementation of EU policies and strategies, discussions on the concept of multi-speed Europe, the different economic and social responses to the crisis in Europe, the competitive development scenarios of the EU and the potential and actions of Europe against other regions of the world will be characterized. List of topics • the concept of globalization, its historical aspects and periodization • main dimensions of globalization • processes of globalization in social development theories • globalization in practice: the role of the elites, development financing and great sporting events • evolution of the position and role of Europe in the processes of globalization • EEC / EU: cold war and the challenges of globalization after communism • globalization crisis and its European implications • assumptions and implementation of EU development strategy • Europe of many speeds • diverse economic and social responses to the crisis in Europe • competitive political development scenarios for the EU • Europe against other regions of the world Student workload: Class work– 30 hrs Preparation to the classes – 45 hrs Preparation to the examination – 45 hrs Total – 120 hrs |

Upon the completion of the course the student: KNOWLEDGE 1. defines the main concepts characterizing processes of globalization 2. knows and recognizes terminology reflecting different concepts of globalization and social development 3. describes Europe as an area of coexistence of various approaches to globalization 4. understands the relationship between the different dimensions of globalization and crisis of development in EU 5. places phenomena and processes related to the political, economic and social changes taking place in Europe and the EU in the context of globalization SKILLS 6. is able to characterize the different concepts of globalization and combines them with the discussions on the directions of development of European countries and the EU 7. can critically analyse statements on globalization and political, economic and social development 8. has competence in the selection of literature and sources of information on the relationship between globalization and the development of Europe 9. articulates in a coherent manner their knowledge 10. can take an active part in the discussion on the relationship between globalization and the crisis of development in Europe 11. compares the different concepts and actions of states and social actors to the process of globalization |
