Teaching methods: |
Eclectic methods of teaching with emphasis placed on communicative ability. The aim is to activate the students through individual and group work, preparing and presenting the results of their own research projects, watching and listening to authentic audio and video recordings, discussions, analysing various types of texts, writing essays. Language functions: Speaking: preparing and delivering a presentation, making polite phone enquires and managing enquiries, telling a personal story, describing people, asking personal questions, talking about the kind of people you get on with, describing a first encounter, giving and responding to opinions, talking about charities and social issues, discussing surveillance society, supporting your viewpoint, discussing ingredients of happiness, describing procedures and locations, describing and recommending an activity, talking about games and sports, discussing bad habits and how to prevent them, talking about holidays, game shows, recommending an experience you have had, expressing likes and dislikes, describing a favourite film scene, talking about wishes and regrets, reading habits, summarising a plot, suggesting ideas, talking about the effects of inventions, discussing advertising tactics, brainstorming ideas, showing reservations. Writing: a summary of a first encounter, an informal letter, a letter of complaint, using formal written language, tips for being happy on a website, an opinion essay, a story, using adverbs in stories, description of a favourite film scene, a report, making written comparisons, a product leaflet Listening: radio programme about speed flatmating, people describing how certain activities make them feel, phone enquiry about a language course, tv drama about starting university, radio programme about very short stories, people recommending books, tv costume drama “Tess of the D’Ubervilles”, programme about advertising, listening to people brainstorming, and extract from a BBC programme about funny ideas. Reading: description of people on a flatmate finder site, informal letter, review of a tv programme, personality quiz, short adverts, articles about charity, geography quiz, newspaper extracts, article about the effects of computer gaming, travellers’ quiz, stories with a moral, biography of a famous person, article about a favourite film moment, article about the worst invention ever, questionnaire on advertising, rules of brainstorming. (in Polish) Kurs na poziomie ponad średnio zaawansowanym (B2) dla studentów wszystkich Wydziałów UW. Kurs prowadzący do zdobycia sprawności mówienia, słuchania, czytania i pisania na poziomie B2, z elementami języka akademickiego i doskonalący techniki egzaminacyjne. Poza umiejętnościami komunikacyjnymi szczególna uwaga poświęcona będzie poprawności gramatycznej, wymowie i poszerzaniu słownictwa. |
