The subject comprehensively explores the topic of pediatric optometry, starting from the development of vision, psychological aspects of contact with a child, procedures and scheme of examination of infants, preschool and school children. The basic diseases of children's eyes are presented. Areas of visual perception and tests used to assess the processing of visual information are discussed. Skeffington's vision model and the model and adaptive mechanisms of near-point stress are mentioned. Diagnostics of the retained primary reflexes and their impact on functioning are described. The role of an optometrist in managing children in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is discussed. |
