The lecture introduces the student to the world of biomolecular structures and describes biopolymers from evolutionary to physicochemical points of view. The lecture will discuss molecular interactions that define what conformation biopolymers adopt and what functions they can perform. The lecture will end with an introduction to the engineering of biomacromolecules - designing artificial proteins.
