Brief description

Drilling, as a branch of technical knowledge, is the entire range of issues related to the implementation of boreholes in the earth's crust for geological and mining research: reservoir, hydrogeological, geological engineering, and technical boreholes for various purposes. The lecture includes a discussion of issues related to the methodology of execution of drilling for geological purpose and exploitation. Presented is the technical characteristics and intended use of different types of drilling rigs and drilling technology for various methods.

Brief description

Engineering geology is solving engineering and environmental problems which may arise as a results of interaction of a subsoil and an engineering structure or spatial development, as well as forecasting and preventing of geological hazards.

The program includes: introduction to the characteristics and classification of engineering geological environment, classification of soils and rock for engineering purposes, basic concepts of soil science, basic concepts of soil mechanics, selected physical-mechanical properties of soils and rocks, theory of geostatic stresses in a soil mass, geohazards in engineering geological environment.

Brief description

Basic classifications of mineral deposits will be introduced during the lecture, along with main ore categories presented in relation to them with examples. Particular emphasis is put on the processes leading to the creation of mineral deposits, the knowledge of which is the key instrument to their exploration.

Brief description

Petrology describes the genesis of three main rock types - igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary through the different processes leading to their formation. Petrology describes mineralogical composition and geochemical features of rocks as well as conditions of their formation. The subject is closely connected with geodynamics, structural geology (in particular with the plate tectonics), sedimentology (particulary analysis of sedimentary basins), geochemistry of igneous and metamorphic rocks and with mineralogy.

Brief description

The aim of the lecture is to introduce rock genesis; to present the most important types of magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks as well as processes responsible for the rock formation. Phase and geochemical composition, textures and possible environments of the rock formation are shown. The lecture has interdisciplinary character e.g. has connection to structural geology (plate tectonics), sedimentology (analysis of sedimentary basins), geochemistry (of magmatic and metamorphic processes), petrogenetic thermodynamic and wide range of mineralogy.
