Brief description

During classes, students will learn about the most common neurosurgical disorders as well as methods used in the neuropsychological diagnosis in a neurosurgery clinic. They will learn how to plan and provide neuropsychological assessment how to choose tests and clinical trials depending on the sort of central nervous system disorder and psychophysical condition of the patient. Students will also try to interpret data from the patients’ examination and give a diagnosis.

Brief description

The course is designed to give an intensive introduction to the issues associated with using structural and functional MRI in proposing, executing and reporting clinical research studies.

Topics will include the basic principles of MRI measurement, DTI, res-fMRI, VBM, techniques for stimulus presentation, basic statistical methods, individual subject experimental design and analysis techniques, group design and analysis techniques, clinical study design principles and guidelines for proposing and reporting clinical neuroimaging studies.

Emphasis will be given to the current and potential future use of the aforementioned techniques.

Brief description

The aim of the course is to get practical experience in neuropsychological rehabilitation. Every participant of the course will work with one brain damaged person during two semesters. The students are supposed to do a neuropsychological diagnosis of the patient at the begining of the therapy, elaborate a rehabilitation program for the patirnt, provide a therapy and do the posttest assessment at the end of the academic year to estimate the effects of rehabilitation. Students will work with help and under the supervision of the tutor.

Brief description

This seminar starts with theoretical background on brain-behaviour relationship and types of neuropsychological assessment. The main goal of the program is to provide the conceptual framework of the steps of complete neuropsychological assessment. The need of understanding the neurological data of the patient current status and his medical history will be stressed. The discussion concentrates on certain practice guides on how to conduct a good neuropsychological examination. The structure of examination report will be analysed on examples.

The course is oriented to teach practical skills. Students will get familiar with the most popular neuropsychological methods of cognitive assessment to examine perception, attention, construction, memory, executive functions, language, reasoning and intelligence. Each student will be obliged to present and perform several tests in class. Final exam will also test acquired practical abilities.

Brief description

(in Polish) Kurs ma na celu zapoznanie studentów z podstawami anatomii oraz fizjologii ośrodkowego układu nerwowego. Na zajęciach omówiona zostanie budowa i czynność rdzenia kręgowego oraz struktur mózgowia z uwzględnieniem ich znaczenia klinicznego. Studenci będą utrwalać wiedzę, korzystając z edukacyjnych rycin do kolorowania zamieszczonych w ćwiczeniach „The human brain coloring book” (patrz: Literatura). Omówione zostaną drogi i ośrodki nerwowe ruchowe oraz czucia (wzrokowe, słuchowe, węchu, smaku, równowagi, czucia somatycznego). Kurs zakończy się testem wielokrotnego wyboru.
