ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to familiarize the academic community with issues related to equal treatment. Participation in the e-course will enable PhD students and learners to gain knowledge, among others about what discrimination is and what its consequences are, look at your attitude towards gender equality, and finally - develop basic skills to respond to discrimination.

Full description:

Understanding Equality Course is an interactive e-course that you can do by yourself.

During the course you will learn what discrimination is, how to recognize it and what to do when you are a witness or a victim.

The course consists of 4 modules:

1. Gender equality policy:

- the broader social context of gender equality,

- historical and social changes in the area of women’s higher education,

- basic terminology regarding gender equality policy,

- the definition of gender.

2. Equality barriers:

- how to identify individual and social barriers of gender equality,

- how our personal beliefs and convictions can affect our relations with others,

- the relationship between stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination.

3. Discrimination:

- different forms of discrimination,

- how to recognize discriminatory behaviour,

- the consequences of discrimination.

4. Responding to discrimination:

- various types of intervention and ways of responding to discrimination,

- responses to discrimination and anti-discrimination procedures are available at the University of Warsaw.

The course is available on the CKC Kampus platform for people who have enrolled in the course

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course PhD students:

- can recognize discrimination, know its kinds,

- know the historical contexts of equality policies and the terminology related to equality,

- can recognize and diagnose barriers to equality in the individual and social dimension,

- know the concepts of stereotypes, prejudices and their impact on discrimination,

- can react to discrimination,

- know the paths of response to discrimination at the University of Warsaw,

- know ideas and vocabulary in English related to equality and antidiscrimination,

- can use the knowledge and vocabulary related to equality and antidiscrimination in English.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Completing the entire interactive course equals 5.

Lower grades represent the percentage of completion of the course. The lowest positive rating is 60% of the course.
