Short description:

In this course students get acquainted with the proteomic methodology

Full description:

In this course students get acquainted with the proteomic methodology. In practical part students will purify protein complexes by Tandem Affinity Purification method and analyze there composition using Mass Spectrometry. In theoretical part students will gain knowledge about various applications of Mass Spectrometry in biology and medicine. This includes the application of mass spectrometry for the identification of proteins and their posttranslational modifications, the information on typical protocols of sample fractionation and preparation, types of mass spectrometric experiments used (including data dependent MS/MS experiment as a basis of modern proteomic analysis) and software tools for the data analysis (database search) and verification steps. Lecture is illustrated with the examples of application of proteomic methodology for solving various problems of bio-medical sciences.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The final assessment is based on following components:

1. assessment of activity in class.

2. mid-semester presentation on the proteins purified and progress of the experiment.

3. final report and presentation at the end of class.
