ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The course is implemented as part of a project co-financed by the European Union with the European Social Fund under the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development 2014-2020.

Course is free of charges.

After completing the course participants will receive certificates confirming participation in the training co-financed by the European Union.


Short description:

The aim of the course is to provide participants with practical knowledge of the legal and financial aspects of starting a business. During the lectures, workshops and discussions, the areas that should be considered before opening a company and during its establishment will be discussed. We will also discuss the subject of creativity and innovation which in the current situation on the market distinctly grows on importance.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice selected issues during the synchronous workshops that will take place at the end of the course and will be a summary of the results of their form in asynchronous lessons.

Full description:

During the synchronous and asynchronous classes, participants become familiar with the range of issues relevant to business planning and its foundation. The main aim of the course is to equip participants with the knowledge necessary to start their own business and to avoid frequent mistakes made by inexperienced entrepreneurs. During the classes, participants will also be able to look on their own qualities and develop the entrepreneurial attitude.

Lesson 1: How to prepare to start your business?

During the first synchronous classes in the course, the following topics will be discussed:

 Advantages and disadvantages of running your own business.

 Why do so many companies go bankrupt within a year of being founded?

 What mistakes are most often made by inexperienced entrepreneurs?

 How to prepare and what to think about before starting a business?

Lesson 2: Creative entrepreneur – what does it mean?

During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, psychological aspects of creative problem solving, and innovation will be discussed. The lesson (in the form of a mini-workshop) will help participants to see their creativity and better understand its role in creating innovation. Participants will learn about the Harvard Manage Mentor, simple but effective innovation planning method.

Lesson 3: Before we start, i.e. SWOT and TOWS analysis.

During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, participants will learn the SWOT analysis method. The classes will have a theoretical part in the form of video material and a practical part. Participants will conduct a sample SWOT analysis.

Lesson 4: Formalities are easy, if you know what to do – we are setting up a company!

During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, participants will learn about formal and legal aspects of starting a business. They will learn, step by step, how to register their own company and what formalities are required by polish Social Insurance Institution and Tax Office.

Lesson 5: Legal forms of business activity - advantages and disadvantages.

During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, various legal forms of running a company in Poland will be discussed. The discussion aims to support participants in choosing the one that best suits their needs.

Lesson 6: EU funds, how to figure it out?

During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, participants will familiarize with issues related to the practical and formal aspects of obtaining EU funding for running a company and implementing various projects.

Lesson 7: Start-up. Specifics, financing, examples.

Is every company a start-up? During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, participants will know the basic information about start-ups and the specificity of their functioning and financing.

Lesson 8: Does It Pay Off. Elements of economic analysis and more – Workshops?

During synchronized classes, participants will have the opportunity to practice the knowledge they acquired during the stand-alone classes. The exercises will be carried out independently and in groups.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge

After completing the course, participants:

• knows the basic issues related to the functioning of the market, are able to use professional terms in this area.

• have knowledge of various forms of running and financing business activity.

• they know what the process of setting up a business in Poland looks like.

• have in-depth knowledge of the formal aspects of starting a business.

• they have knowledge about selected sources of financing enterprises and start-ups, including financing from EU funds.

• they know the methodology of SWOT and TOWS analysis.

Skills

After completing the course, participants:

• are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of running their own business.

• they know what issues should be considered before setting up a company.

• are able to analyze their situation in terms of opportunities and threats.

• understand the role of creativity in the search for innovation.

• are able to carry out a basic analysis of the profitability of a project with the use of basic economic indicators.

• are able to make a critical SWOT analysis of opportunities and threats.

• know and are able to apply the Harvard Manage Mentor innovation planning method.

Social competences

After completing the course, participants:

• are able to realistically assess their strengths and weaknesses and work on personal development.

• assesses their expectations regarding business activity and the role of the entrepreneur.

• improves the ability to observe and understand the needs of other people.

• develops creativity and the ability to solve problems creatively.

• develops an entrepreneurial attitude.

• improves planning ability.

• are aware of the role of persistence in achieving goals.

• • better understands the relationship between planning, market variables and the risk of running a business.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Participants are assessed on the basis of three elements:

- presence, attendance and participation in on-line meetings,

- accomplishment of asynchronous lessons and tasks on the Moodle platform,

- and the result of the final test.

To pass the course, the student must obtain a minimum of 60% of each of the above.
