  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Gender-based violence is a serious problem throughout the world, including EU. For example, according to Fundamental Rights Agency (2014) one in 10 women has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 15. According to Council of Europe until 22nd January 2022 35 countries have ratified the Istanbul Convention but still there is a huge backlash against it in some countries, e. g. in Poland. Our course aims at highlighting the prevalence of gender-based violence, its most common forms, its causes, its consequences and methods of preventing it and intervention when it already happens.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

Student knows the most common forms of gender-based violence, its risk factors and its consequences.

Skills:

Student can critically analyse the statistics of gender-based violence. Student can critically analyse the media depictions of gender-based violence and identify the myths spread by them.

Social competences:

Student can plan the strategies that can be used when they will witness gender-based violence or a risk of it. Student can plan what they would do if it turns out that somebody in their environment had been a victim of gender-based violence.
