Short description: |
The course is dedicated to 1st year students in order to maintain their commitment to psychology. The theses proclaimed by the adherents of the main schools of personality psychology will be discussed as well as selected interesting psychological phenomena. |

1. Psychoanalysis as a world-view. 2. Behaviourism. Assumptions, psychotherapy, the "myth" of punishment. 3. Humanistic-existential vision. A look at schizophrenia. 4. Traits theory id est the individual differences. 5. Cognitive approach means the experimental researching on psychological processes. 6. Creativity. 7. Psychological tests and, among others, intelligence. 8. The norm and the psychopathology: not only the scientific issues. 9. Authoritarianism and its political connections. 10. Cultural identity: the independent and the interdependent self. |

Learning outcomes: |
Knowledge. Student: – knows the advantages and the limitations of the main theoretical schools in psychology; – understands properly the basic notions of personality psychology, psychology of learning, and psychology of individual differences, and also can discern the differences between these notions. Attitudes. Student: – does not deal with theory in a dogmatic way being aware of the semantical polyphony; – tends to multilateral view of the problems. Competences. Student: – begins to use psychological cathegories (e.g. intelligence, independent self) in order to describe and understand the phenomena of social life; – can explain a particular phenomenon on the bases of several different psychological theories. |
