ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic issues of addiction psychology. Theoretical approaches explaining sources of addiction, methods of diagnosis and treatment of addictions and strategies for counteracting this phenomenon will be presented. Student will learn psychological problems and psychosocial consequences of various types of addiction

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge - student knows:

- basic concepts of addiction;

- diagnostic criteria for addictions according to ICD-10 and DSM-V

- addictive factors and protective factors;

- features of effective prevention programs;

- the principles and goals of treatment for addicts;

Skills - student can:

- develop a program of addiction prevention workshops and propose a method for evaluating this program

- critically address the common knowledge of addiction

Attitudes - student is aware:

- the need to use scientific sources for prevention and treatment of addiction

- the need to disseminate knowledge about addiction prevention

- student assumes and promotes professional attitudes towards people experiencing addiction problems

Full description:

During the course, the student will have the opportunity to know the basic information on various types of addiction, their specificity, development, diagnosis, therapy and support of people with such problems. Selected research on risk and protective factors in addiction development as well as assumptions and standards of psycho-prevention programs in this area will be discussed. Some issues (including therapeutic programs, social consequences) will be discussed on the example of alcohol addiction.
