ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

This lecture course will examine the political aspects of the history of Europe in the 19th century. The main political events will be presented against a background of social and cultural change. A special emphasis will be put on the transformation of the political culture.

This lecture course will examine the political aspects of the history of Europe in the 19th century. The main political events will be presented against a background of social and political change. A special emphasis will be put on the transformation of the political culture.

1. The origins of the French Revolution.

2. The French Revolution: a liberal project?

3. The French Revolution: utopia and terror.

4. The Napoleonic state.

5. The expansion of the French empire.

6. Prussia: the Stein-Hardenberg reforms.

7. The Congress of Vienna.

8. The Holy Allience: ideology and praxis.

9. Great Britain: European policies and empire-building.

10. The Russian Empire and dilemmas of modernization.

11. The Springtime of the People: France.

12. The Springtime of the People: the Habsburg Empire.

13. The Second Empire in France: political experiments.

14. The establishment of the Kingdom of Italy.

15. The establishment of the German Empire.
