  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Short description:

The course is dedicated to presentation and analysis of chosen social and economic fields which went trough dynamic changes during recent decades and were a subject of academic and social attention. We will predominantly focus on ideas expressed by researchers and social activists offering alternative solutions to common economic problems. The course is based on the study of literature accompanied by workshops, during which the students will have occasion to meet invited researchers and social activists. Students are encouraged to contribute to course program and to list of invited guests.

The course is dedicated to presentation and analysis of chosen social and economic fields which went trough dynamic changes during recent decades and were a subject of academic and social attention. We will predominantly focus on ideas expressed by researchers and social activists offering alternative solutions to common economic problems. The course is based on the study of literature accompanied by workshops, during which the students will have occasion to meet invited researchers and social activists. Students are encouraged to contribute to course program and to list of invited guests.

Blocks of issues:

1. Work, property, economic security and social insurance

Particular topics: trade unions in XXI century, employee ownership, participatory economics (ParEcon), co-operatives (co-ops), changing work/ automation (robotisation), post-work society, feminist economics, universal basic income.

2. Financial system

Particular topics: capital, money creation, debt, alternative and local currencies

3. Ecological economics (eco-economics)

Particular topics: changes in patterns of production and consumption, post-growth, organic farming

Learning outcomes:

Having finished the course, a student will:

– be able to analyse economic phenomena from the cultural perspective

– be able to point out most important issues of contemporary economic debates

– be able to critically evaluate alternative proposals in social and economic fields.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment criteria: quality of discussion during classes (zoom platform) and completing the tasks on e-learnig platform (google classroom).
