ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The course is dedicated to presentation and analysis of chosen social and research fields related to sexuality and reproduction. Both issues are strongly ideologically engaged. Therefore they are subjects of culture wars and are frequently referred to by diverse political actors. During the course we will discus such topics as sexuality education and body positivity, sex work, sexual life of GSD people, changes in Polish sexology, sexual coaching. The course is based on the study of literature accompanied by workshops, during which the students will have occasion to meet invited social activists. Students are encouraged to contribute to course program.

The course is dedicated to presentation and analysis of chosen social and research fields related to sexuality and reproduction. Both issues are strongly ideologically engaged. Therefore they are subjects of culture wars and are frequently referred to by diverse political actors. During the course we will discus such topics as sexuality education and body positivity, sex work, sexual life of GSD people, changes in Polish sexology, sexual coaching. The course is based on the study of literature accompanied by workshops, during which the students will have occasion to meet invited social activists. Students are encouraged to contribute to course program.

Learning outcomes:

The student knows and understands:

- the specificity of cultural studies and their usefulness in the analysis of human sexuality

- in-depth knowledge of contemporary identity theories as a tool for understanding gender identity and sexual orientation

- methodologies of cultural studies and related research methods useful for studying sexuality

The student is able to:

- use her/his knowledge to search, analyse, evaluate, select, integrate information from various sources and to use it in her/his research projects and present their results in an appropriate and creative way

- take part in discussions with diverse audiences, maintain the culture of debate in situations involving a diversity of world views and axiological systems

- initiate and carry out team research; co-operate in a team with other people; lead a team; organise individual and team work

The student is ready to:

- critically assess the possessed knowledge and the received content

- adopt an attitude of respect and research curiosity towards various cultural phenomena, including the use of acquired knowledge to solve observed problems and consulting experts

- engage in social and intercultural dialogue with understanding and empathy

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Credit: on the basis of attendance and activity during class (participation in discussions, co-organisation of workshops), completion of several assignments on the Google Classroom platform and a team project. Some of guest lectures may take place online (via Zoom).

Permissible number of absences: 2.

Absence from 30% of classes makes it impossible to pass the course.
