  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

Short description:

During the course the most important phenomena, trends, and works of contemporary Polish culture, as well as the most outstanding Polish writers and artists will be presented.

Asynchronous course held on the e-learning platform Kampus.

Full description:

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the most outstanding and the most characteristic phenomena, trends, works, and creators of contemporary Polish culture. The time framework is from the postwar period to the present. During the course, will be addressed the chosen topics concerning the following disciplines: literature, film, theatre, fine arts, and music.

The course content will be presented chronologically and in a synthetic way, and will be situated in the social and historical context, in order to present an image of contemporary Polish culture that will be coherent and understandable for foreign students. It will provide them with the necessary minimum knowledge about this topic.

The lecture will be supplemented with presentations of different art works, photos, fragments of literary and musical works, films, and theatrical spectacles. All the original works are translated in English or have English subtitles.

8. History of Polish Fine Arts in the 20th Century.

9. Contemporary Visual Arts in Poland.

10. History of Polish Music in the 20th Century.

11. Contemporary Polish Music.

12. Recapitulation and Review.

13. Consultations.

14. Final Test.

Learning outcomes:

After attending the course students will:

– know the most famous works and the most important creators of contemporary Polish culture in disciplines such as: literature, film, theatre, fine arts, and music;

– understand the most significant and characteristic phenomena and trends in contemporary Polish culture;

– be able to situate the achievements of contemporary Polish culture in the context of European and world culture.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

• Participation in Discussions on the Forum – 20%

• Quizzes after each Unit – 20%

• Written Assignment – 30%

• Final Test – 30%

Attention! In order to pass the course, it is necessary to get at least 60% from each of the above-mentioned components which constitute the final grade.
