Prerequisites (description): | The goal of this seminar is to raise students' (self-) awareness in relation to Polish language culture - its traditions, geographical, social, functional, and stylistic diversity, principles of language norms, institutions reponsible for the codification of contemporary Polish language, as well as for language education and government policy in relation to Polish language. |

The seminar entitled: "The culture of Polish language: between language correctness and pragmatics" is intended for students who have a basic knowledge of Polish language at the secondary school level. The seminar method used will require students to participate actively in this course. They will be required to present topics in the area of Polish language culture based on their readings, as well as submitting assignments given to them by the tutor. They may also be required to present some or all aspects of their assignments. The topics of the seminar include: 1/ Knowledge of the Polish language culture: a) geographical and social diversity, b) functional and stylistic diversity of literary (or 'received') Polish, c) description of the linguistic norms of Polish language; 2/Functional, stylistic, and correctness analysis of fragments of academic, journalistic, and other forms of formal writing; 3/Functional and stylistic analysis of internet language; 4/Exercises in creating, presenting, analysis and assessment of students' own writing on diverse subjects and using different conventions. |

Learning outcomes: |
1/ Knowledge - students will gain knowledge in relation to the culture of contemporary Polish language (diversification of Polish language, principles of linguistic norms in Polish language, description of existing linguistic norms) 2/ Abilities - students will learn how to analise and assess texts-speeches from the perspective of cultural linguistics (with respect to the goal, type of text/speech, relevant linguistic and stylistic norms, aesthetics and ethics of a given text/speech) 3/Social competencies - students will develop knowledge of and abilities to engage in interpresonal communication |

1/Student's specific activities and seminar attendance - preparation of presentations, participation in discussions; 2/Preparation of linguistic, stylistic, correctness and pragma-communicative analysis of a chosen text. |
