Learning outcomes: |
Knowledge - To identify the chronology of the history of the Israelites/Jews from the Late Bronze Age, until the Hellenistic Period. - To Identify political history, geography and demography of the Jewish settlement in Levant during Iron Age. - To know the processes of forming the ethnic and state entities. - To understand the changes in the Israelites’ / Jewish religion. - To know historical and cultural factors related to the history of the Jews during I Millennium BCE Skills - To characterise the major scholarly issues in the history of the Jews in antiquity. - To identify the processes of acculturation, assimilation, in the case of the Jews in antiquity. - To describe adequately the political and cultural institutions related to the Israelites / Jewish in antiquity. - To understand the impact of non-scholarly (political, religious) factors on the reconstruction of the Jewish past. Social competences - To understand the key-role of the ancient history of the Jews in formation of Judaism and Jewish identity. - To understand the role of the religious diversity within the social groups. - To understand the interdisciplinary aspects of the study on ancient communities. - To understand the factors related to the appearance of xenophobia and anti-Semitism. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Students have to attend the lectures (two absences allowed) and pass the final test, based on the material discussed during the lectures. |
