  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Passed after the first year of study subject: Descriptive Grammar of Russian Language. Phonetics. Phonology. Lexicology. Intermediate-advanced knowledge of the Russian language.



Short description:

The aim of the course is present the students issues morphemics and word formation, and the classification of words into parts of speech and their characteristics.

Students are able to classify morphemes and carry out the analysis of morpheme, consciously analyze formative divisibility of words, carry out an analysis of word derivation, learn the terminology and theoretical issues concerning the characteristics of the parts of speech in Russian, shall classify the words in the text of the parts of speech, and they can give their formal and grammatical characteristics.

Lecture is designed to present a a systematic knowledge necessary to pass the course.

The lecture includes the following topics:

MORPHEMICS: concept of morpheme, types of morphemes, allomorphs and variants of morphemes, morpheme analysis.

WORD FORMATION: synchronic and diachronic word formation, formative divisibility: motivated and unmotivated words, formative stem and formant, methods and types of derivation, formative meaning, lexical category and type, regularity and productivity in word-formation, formative paradigm, formative family of words, formative analysis.

MORPHOLOGY OF NOMINAL PARTS OF SPEECH: the basic concepts of morphology, classification of words into parts of speech. Noun: lexical and semantic characteristics, morphological categories, basics of noun formation. Adjective: semantic and categorial characteristics, classification, forms of degrees of comparison, short-form and full-form adjectives, declension, basics of adjective formation. Pronoun: semantic and functional classification, morphological categories. Numeral: semantic characteristic, division, declension, syntactic features.

Verb: semantic characteristic, morphological categories, basics of verb formation.

Adverb: semantics and morphology.

Category of state: morphological and semantic characteristics.

Dependent parts of speech: prepositions, conjunctions, particles, interjections.

Exercises are designed to deepen knowledge learned during the lecture, give her a practical application, to mobilize students to be active and work systematically.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

- the student knows and understands the basic principles of linguistic analysis of a text at morphological level

- the student knows and understands the basic Russian and Polish linguistic terminology in the scope of morphology.

Skills:

- the student has basic research skills in the scope of analysis and interpretation of given texts at morphological level,

- the student can use linguistic terminology at morphological level,

- the student can analyze grammatical forms in a text, select and classify language units, create definite grammatical forms, s/he knows the principles of changes in paradigms.

Social competences:

- the student is aware of the need of continuing education,

- the student is aware of the level of their knowledge and skills in the scope of morphology, and s/he can update or improve their knowledge.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Test – 26 questions, max points 185

The final grade includes points from test and from tests during classes, i.e. 165 + 80 = 265

Points and marks:

133 – 158 = 3,0

159 – 185 = 3,5

186 – 211 = 4,0

212 – 237 = 4,5

238 – 264 = 5,0

265=5!

The estimated total number of hours the student ought to devote to achieve the defined effects of studying:

- lecture and classes = 60 hours (2 ECTS)

- individual preparation for every lecture/ class = about 45 hours (1,5 ECTS)

- exam preparation = about 15 hours (0,5 ECTS)

TOTAL about 120 hours

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course.

The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.

If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
