Short description: |
The subject presents a variety of methods of linguistic research, especially today's. The program prepares students for conducting research and the subject matter of the course is related to scientific research conducted at the Institute of Russian Studies. |

1. Knowledge and scientific knowledge. The essence and the concept of science. Objectives, types and nature of scientific research. 2. General division of science. Place of humanities among other sciences. The specificity of the humanities. 3. Methodology - method. Elements of the general methodology of science. Object and subject of linguistic research. 4. Research methods of historical linguistics. 5. Semantic theories within the structural theory of language. 6. Moscow school of semantics. Model «Sens <-> Text». 7. The semantic language of A. Wierzbicka. 8. Research on the pragmatic meanings of expression. Theory of speech acts. 9. Text linguistics. Text distinctions (cohesion and coherence). Typology of texts. Discourse. 10. KNOWLEDGE 1. knows the main directions of linguistic research with particular emphasis on those practiced in Russian linguistics 2. knows the methodology of contemporary linguistic research as well as Russian and Polish linguistic terminology 3. knows the rules of searching for linguistic information in Russian SKILLS 1. can search for linguistic information in Russian 2. can indicate research procedures applied to selected linguistic hypotheses and phenomena SOCIAL COMPETENCE 1. is aware of the role of scientific research and the necessity of conducting it 2. accepts the diversity of views and research paradigms 3. creative thoughts |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
1. Continuous assessment (current preparation for classes and activity) – 40% 2. Tests and quizzes on the Kampus platform. Max points: 100 (10x10) – 60% Points and marks: 3,0 (dst) – from 51 to 60 points 3,5 (dst+) – from 61 to 70 points 4,0 (db) – from 71 to 80 points 4,5 (db+) – from 81 to 90 points 5,0 (bdb) – from 91 to 100 points 5! - the grade may be obtained by a student who, on the basis of tests, obtained a grade of 5.0 and showed above-average activity in classes and / or knowledge going beyond the core of the program. The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence. Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course. The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam. If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw. |
