ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The student should speak Belarusian at a level that enables him/her to understand the content of the material orally and in writing.

Short description:

The aim of the classes is to develop the proper skills and proper use of the Belarusian language, familiarize students with normative theories. Content covered in class are related to the codification of Belarusian language standards, current trends in the development of Belarusian language and selected issues of language culture.

Full description:

Some classes are devoted to particular issues concerning mostly grammatical and lexical correctness (including correctness in the creation of the nomination of female names, professions, the variety of names, surnames and geographical names, criteria for evaluating the correctness of lexical selection and ways of enriching it.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge: the student understands and has an advanced knowledge of

- the subject and methodological specifics of research in language studies,

- various functions of language in the context of, e.g. literature, culture, religion, history, art, politics, economy or media,

- major tendencies in language research and its most significant challenges and problems observed nowadays.

Skills: the student can

- formulate and analyse research problems in the area of language studies, choose research methods and tools, including advanced information and communication technology,

- use theories, research paradigms and concepts common to language studies while communicating with the community and during debates and discussions,

- recognise various types of texts and carry out a linguistic analysis in a wider context,

- draft correct, clear and coherent papers in Polish and in foreign languages on selected topics,

- individually plan and pursue his or her own process of lifelong learning.

Social competencies: the student is ready to:

- critically evaluate his or her knowledge and the content he or she receives,

- recognise the significance of knowledge in solving epistemic and practical problems as well as resort to expert opinion,

- correctly identify and solve professional dilemmas in accordance with tradition and professional ethics.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The subject ends with a written credit in the form of a test consisting of closed single- and multiple-choice questions and open questions.

Coursework is worth 50% of the final grade and the other 50% comes from the final test.

Written test - evaluation criteria:

60% – 66% - 3

67% - 76% - 3,5

77% - 86% - 4

87% - 96% - 4,5

97% - 100 % - 5

100% knowledge and skills outside the curriculum - 5!

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course.

The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.
