Short description: |
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basics of specialist knowledge and terminology necessary to build and improve the research workshop in the field of analyzing the language of law, as well as in professional practice related to the professional translation of legal and legal texts. |

Familiarize students with the basics of specialist knowledge and terminology necessary to build and improve the research workshop in the field of analyzing the language of law; familiarization with the key lexical, syntactic and stylistic issues of the Ukrainian legal and legal language. Thanks to working with selected texts and documents functioning in the legal system, the participants of the classes will be able to acquire specialist translation skills in various fields of law, such as civil, administrative and financial law, criminal law, and international law. CEFR language proficiency level - C2. Learning outcomes: |
After completing the course, the student: 1. knowledge - has a structured and in-depth knowledge of the legal and legal terminology of the Ukrainian and Polish languages (K2_W01); - knows in-depth the principles and techniques of legal translation (K2_W05); - has in-depth knowledge of the connection between learning Ukrainian as a specialist language and the field of law, as well as about the similarities and differences resulting from the specificity of the legal system in force in Ukraine and Poland (K2_W06). 2. skills - can search, critically analyze, creatively interpret and use information on the language of Ukrainian law with the use of appropriate sources (K2_ U01); - can apply appropriate research methods and tools in the field of legal and legal Ukrainian language (K2_U03); - is able to communicate on specialist topics in the field of law and the Ukrainian language with diverse audiences (K2_U07). 3. social competence - the student is ready to critically assess their knowledge and received content (K2_K01). |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
The course ends with a written exam. Conditions for admission to the final written exam: - attendance - control of the current preparation - passing the translation test. The assessment criteria for the final written exam, which is a test in the form of translation tasks checking the acquired language competences, are presented in the form of percentage thresholds: 99% -100% - 5 ! (very good with an exclamation mark) 96% - 98% - 5 (very good) 87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus grade) 78% - 86% - 4 (good grade) 69% - 77% - 3+ (sufficient plus) 60% - 68% - 3 (sufficient) The student has the right to 2 absences. If there are more than 2 of them, including the excused ones, the student should ask the lecturer to determine the form of crediting the course material. Exceeding excused and unexcused absences for 50% of classes is the basis for failing the course. Rules for taking the make-up exam: The student has the right to take the exam in the make-up session in the same form as in the main session and provided that he/she obtains a credit in the subject. |
