ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is theoretical and practical preparation for creating corpora of specialized languages ​​and Polish-Ukrainian lexicographic studies in various fields (introduction to the issues of interlingual equivalence, principles of constructing specialized dictionaries). Language proficiency level - C1+ according to CEFR.

Full description:

The subjects of the classes are lexicography as an interdisciplinary field, on the border of linguistics, cultural studies and editing. They are designed to prepare students theoretically and practically to create corpora of specialized languages ​​and lexicographic studies in various fields (introduction to the recent history of vocabulary in the Polish and Ukrainian language area, including electronic dictionaries, typology and structure of language dictionaries, rules of constructing Polish-Ukrainian dictionaries specialist (construction of entry-level articles), the issues of inter-linguistic equivalence and synonymy in terminology).

Estimated, total number of hours that the student must spend to achieve the learning outcomes defined for the subject - 60 hours. (2 ECTS)

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student:

1. knowledge

The student knows and deeply understands the terminology and methodology of linguistic research, the theory of translation studies and translation techniques, as well as the most important issues related to the functioning of the modern Ukrainian language. (K2_W01, K2_W05, K2_W06)

2. skills

The student is able to properly select sources and information derived from them, analyze, creatively interpret and present information in the field of Ukrainian, use various types of dictionaries, correctly interpreting the information contained therein. (K2_ U01)

The student is able to use appropriate methods and research tools in the field of Ukrainian linguistics, enabling the creation of corpora of specialized languages ​​and specialized Polish-Ukrainian lexicographic studies. (K2_U03)

Is able to communicate on specialist topics undertaken during the classes with a diverse audience. (K2_U07)

By completing the course, the student is able to communicate both orally and in writing in Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements specified for the C2 level. (K2_U09)

3. social competences

The student is ready to critically assess the knowledge and content received. (K2_K01).

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Conditions for admission to the final grade:

- attendance

- current preparation and performance of homework (e.g. oral presentations on selected issues of specialist lexicography; exercises consisting in creating fragments of corpora of specialized languages ​​and dictionary entries)

The evaluation criteria for the final pass, which is the preparation of a Polish-Ukrainian Ukrainian-Polish terminological dictionary, are presented in the form of percentage thresholds:

99% -100% - 5! (Very good rating with an exclamation mark)

96% - 98% - 5 (very good)

87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)

78% - 86% - 4 (good)

69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)

60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)

The following criteria are used to assess the written test:

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all important aspects - 5.0 (very good)

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all important aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4.5 (good plus)

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some (less important) aspects - 4.0 (good)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes with the omission of some important aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3.5 (satisfactory plus)

- achievement of the assumed educational results without significant aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3.0 (satisfactory)

- failure to achieve the assumed learning outcomes - 2.0 (unsatisfactory)

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires a justification. The instructor determines the method of making up for the remaining unexcused absences.

Exceeding the excused and unjustified absences for 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.

Rules for taking a make-up test:

The conditions for a retake pass are the same as for the first term pass (information above).
