ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to allow students to master the English language to the extent enabling their communication in various everyday life situations in terms of listening, speaking, reading, and writing at the level of B2.

Full description:

The aim of this course is for students to master the English language to a degree that enables them to communicate in everyday situations at the B2 level.

Students will learn to understand the main points of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics.

Students will be able to understand the main points of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics.

Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.

Can make clear and detailed oral or written statements on a wide range of subjects and express a viewpoint on matters under discussion, giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Student workload:

60 hrs.

Organized hours - 2 hours per week x 1 semester = 30 hours (1 ECTS credit)

The unassisted student work - 15 hours preparing for the classes (0.5 ECTS), 15 hours preparing for the exam (0.5 ECTS)

The graduate has the ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing in accordance with the requirements of level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (K1_W10)

The graduates are able to communicate orally and in writing in English according to the requirements of level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (K1_U10)

The graduates are able to critically evaluate their knowledge and contents (K1_K01)

Requirements for passing the course and for admission to the final assessment, assessment components:

- control tests and translation tests, written statements - 25%

- group and individual presentations - 25%

- Final assessment - 50%.

Written assessment:

60% - 68% - 3 (sufficient grade)

69% - 77% - 3+ (sufficient plus)

78% - 86% - 4 (good grade)

87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)

96% - 98% - 5 (very good grade)

99% -100% - 5 !(a very good mark with an exclamation mark)

A student is entitled to 3 unexcused absences, each subsequent absence requires an excuse. The lecturer decides about accepting the absence.

The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences in 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.

If it is not possible to conduct classes in a stationary form, classes will be held using distance communication tools, most likely Zoom and Classroom and others recommended by UW.
