Short description:

The cycle of conversions includes philosophical reflections on a culture understood as the history of human thought and its interrelated activity. A historical overview of the fundamental philosophical trends which allows to some extent explains the phenomenon of culture.

Full description:

The purpose of the seminar is to familiarise students with a philosophic reflection on the changes phenomena in culture.

The student develops his research skills, learns to acquire knowledge independently, using the support of a scientific supervisor.

Proposed subject of the course:

1. The specificity of philosophical reflection on culture.

2. Antiquity - the foundation of European culture.

3. Medieval cultural theocentrism

4. The humanists of rebirth to a culture dominated by religious-philosophical beliefs and builders of the building of knowledge of the world.

5. A picture of romantic mental acuity.

6. Pragmatism and utilitarianism in the European culture of the XIX century.

7. Nineteenth-century Russian philosophy on the way to the socialist utopia.

8. Culture and ideology.

9. Philosophical sources of the culture of modernism.

10. Psychoanalysis as philosophical thoughts on culture.

11. The essence of man and art in phenomenological theory.

12. Hermeneutics as an influential trend of modern cultural philosophy.

13. Dialogika by Mikhail Bachtina.

14. Resolve existentialism with an attempt to establish new values.

15. Postmodernism in philosophical thought and art.

After completing classes:

[Knowledge:]

1) Knows and understands in-depth the context of the European and global cultural processes – it can apply this knowledge concerning culture, art, literature, linguistic phenomena, as well as political, social and economic countries of the region.

2) Understood and understood in a more profound way the broader intercultural context; Has more in-depth knowledge of man as an entity constructing social structures and cultural creations, is aware of the principles of their functioning and the consequent differences in perceptions of social life by representatives of different nationalities, groups Ideological and religious beliefs.

2) can develop their research skills, gain knowledge by using the support of a supervisor; Formulate thoughts, present the results of the tests in the form of oral or written composition (various types).

3) can refer to the theoretical and practical knowledge and use it in the typical professional statements concerning philosophical reflection on the changes in culture, as well as its specificities, logically construct them, Referring to the positions of other participants in these communication situations.

1) is ready to critically assess your knowledge, to continually educate yourself and to complement your understanding.

2) is willing to participate in the cultural life and use of its various forms.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

One condition for passing the subject is compulsory attendance at classes in accordance with the Details of principles of study at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics (resolution no. 114 of the LS Division Council of 19 December 2017).

Classes will be conducted in the form of exercises. Active participation in the exercises means substantive participation in at least 50% of the classes.

The final grade comprises:

Active and substantive participation in classes (10%)

Written work or presentation on the subject designated by the lecturer (30%).

Written work (60%)

Written work (3-6 pages) or a presentation on the material provided by the lecturer - this will include the matter discussed during the classes.

The final deadline for submitting a paper is the date set by the teacher during the first or second class. Students absent from these classes are required to obtain information from the teacher conducting the class.

Oral (40%): full answer = 40%, partial = 20%.

0‒49%: 2

50‒60%: 3

61‒70%: 3+

71‒80%: 4

81‒90%: 4+

91‒100%: 5
