ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the cultural issues of German-speaking countries and to synthetically present the main stages in the development of cinematography in the German-speaking area, taking into account such aspects as: main tendencies, centers, artists, works.

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the cultural issues of German-speaking countries and to synthetically present the main stages in the development of cinematography in the German-speaking area, taking into account such aspects as: main tendencies, centers, artists, works.

- The beginnings of cinematography in the German-speaking area

- cinema – the 20s of the twentieth century – trends, creators, assumptions

- propaganda cinema – Heimatfilm

- Leni Riefenstahl – documentaries, cinema of the Third Reich

- UFA and DEFA

- films on the subject of migration – the 70s of the twentieth century to the present day

- films about World War II

- films about 'Ostalgia'

The student is able to:

search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information and develop research skills in the field of culture of the German-speaking countries as well as comparative cultural and literary studies

The student is ready to:

cooperation and work in a group, taking on different roles in it, and defining priorities for the implementation of a task defined by oneself or others and participation in cultural life, using various media and its various forms

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Classes are conducted in the form of a seminar. Credit on the basis of a presentation or a written term paper.
