Short description: |
The aim of the course is to present ways of describing and depicting old age, death and transience of life in contemporary German literature for children of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. Reflection on a the way to implement such topics as: cheerful old age, old age burdened with diseases - dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, caricatured image of old age, death, mourning, the passing of life - both in relation to the text and to the picture. The seminar has a workshop character and assumes active participation of students in the search for answers to the question about the legitimacy of breaking taboos in publications for the youngest readers. |

Description of the course content: 1. Interpretation of the taboo concept for a children's book - What it used to be and what it is now. 2. "Ars moriendi" theme and in literature for children, 3. Old age in children's literature and book: - cheerful old age, - old age burdened with diseases - dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, - caricatured image of old age, 4. death, mourning, 5. the passing of life. |

Learning outcomes: |
Knowledge: - acquiring, deepening and updating the knowledge about new trends in literature for children, - getting to know the topics of cultural and moral taboos present in children's literature. Skills: - the ability to prepare and present arguments in the discussion on the legitimacy or lack of legitimacy of the presence of controversial topics in books for young children, - the ability to critically evaluate how taboos are dealt with in children's books and to participate in a discussion. Social competence: - understanding the need for lifelong learning, - the ability to participate in a discussion in a cultural way, - the ability to systematically participate in cultural life and interest in the development of the publishing market of children's books. |
