Short description:

During the seminar, aesthetic studies will be conducted on various forms of the new sensibility A series of historical and intellectual developments have led to the formation of this sensibility: the appearance of new media and together and related shifts in the functions of art; the appearance of new conceptualizations of issues in aesthetics; the affective turn together with the appearance of radical phenomenology and new forms of attention; the performative turn; the emphasis of the bodily dimension of experience; research into the aesthetic dimension of everyday life.

Full description:

During the seminar, aesthetic studies will be conducted on various forms of the new sensibility.

The key cultural changes that led to the occurence of some of its forms were:

- increasing media engagement changing the existing functions of art and artistic practices, and new ways of conceptualising aesthetic issues;

-affective turn which, together with the emergence of radical phenomenology, has found expression in directing research into new fields

-a performative turn associated with a processual vision of reality and a creative activity that produces new qualities in it.

- a spatial turn, which contributed to considering works of art, architecture and artistic practices in the context of dynamic social interactions, in close relationships with everyday life and current problems.

The changes in sensibility we are researching are also caused by the shift towards material culture observed today..

In the twentieth-century mainstream of philosophical discussions, the materiality of our everyday life was marginalised, and often even stigmatised.

The return of studies on material culture in contemporary anthropology and in cultural studies has already confirmed the conviction that we must restore things the agency and even let them regain their secret lives..

In the current academic year, we will focus on questions related to the issues of matter and materiality in contemporary art.

We will be also interested in the area that extends between the issue of matter, things and aesthetic perception, including :

1. Problems of fetishism.

2. The category of the factish.

3. Things and traces.

4. Separation of things, their nakedness, loneliness.

5. The Fold.

6. The Atmosphere

7. Hermann Schmitz's concept of bodysphere and bodysphere experience.

8. Issues of using matter of "lighter" states of concentration - meteorological architecture

9. New materials in contemporary architecture

10. Reflection on "used matter" - broken objects, ruins, wasteland

A detailed list of the topics of the seminar meetings will be drawn up after comparing our proposals with the research interests of the seminar participants.
