The lecture presents main ideas, doctrines, trends and philosophical schools of polish philosophy of anti-positivistic turn and of the 20th century.

Full description:

The lecture presents main ideas, doctrines, trends and philosophical schools of polish philosophy of anti-positivistic turn and of the 20th century. The lecture discuss the following issues (i.a.): Polish philosophy of anti-positivistic turn and modernist metaphysics (E. Abramowski, K. Twardowski, S. Brzozowski, M. Zdziechowski); the axiological philosophy of culture and its fundamental role in the historiosophical views on the future of European civilization (F. Znaniecki, S. I. Witkiewicz); new projects of scientific philosophy (Lwow-Warsaw School, phenomenology of R. Ingarden); ontological disputes during the interwar period; the situation of Polish philosophy in the post-war period.

Acquired knowledge:

- the student has a structured knowledge of the main directions of development and the most important achievements in the Polish philosophical thought of the anti-positivist and twentieth century;

- knows basic research methods and argumentation strategies used in contemporary Polish philosophy.

Acquired skills:

- the student detects the relationship between the formation of philosophical ideas and social and cultural processes.

Acquired social competences:

- the student is aware of the importance of humanistic and philosophical reflection for the formation of social bonds.

Assessment based on a short written work (on a selected topic discussed during the lecture).
