Subjects and realization of the course: - special role of Romanticism in the shaping of culture and creating myths in this region of Europe (lecture); - comment on the thesis about the weak impact of Enlightenment rationalism and universalism on Central Europe (lecture+seminar); - imagination as a subject of study in cultural anthropology, sociology and psychology in the XX Century and the contribution to this domain of research of philosophers like Cassirer, Gadamer, Heidegger, Bachelard, Ricoeur (lecture); - evolution of contemporary views on myth as a constitutive element of collective consciousness; mythisation and mystification (lecture+seminar); - examples of myths and symbols present in the cultural environment of Central Europe: the myth of the origins, the myth of the hero, the myth of the golden age, messianic myths, the myth of the stranger etc. (seminar). |

Learning outcomes: |
(in Polish) Student potrafi zdefiniować naukowe kategorie mitu i mityzacji oraz określić związki tych kategorii z fenomenem tożsamości narodowej. Zna najważniejsze mitologemy obszaru środkowoeuropejskiego oraz rozumie zmienny i ewolucyjny charakter ich perpcepcji społecznej. Ma własny pogląd na symbolikę i mity współczesnie funkcjonujące w Europie Środkowej, zna ich genezę , potrafi uzasadnić własną opinię (pozytywną bądź krytyczną) dotyczącą ich dzisiejszej roli i znaczenia. |

Form and terms of course completion: - a written work /an essay/ - confirmed knowledge of at least 4 positions of the reading list - continuous assessment of the student during the seminar sessions |
